mcCr are raising funds for a new cancer unit at Cooma Hospital

Artist impression of proposed new cancer unit.

In 2007 the oncology unit at Cooma Hospital was opened with funds raised by mcCr and through Greater Southern Health with a NSW Cancer Institute Health Services Innovation Grant. In 2017 the unit was renovated and extended by mcCr giving more space around the treatment chairs to provide greater comfort for patients and a safer working environment for the nursing staff.

Once again the unit’s needs are exceeding it’s environment and mcCr are now raising funds to build a stand alone unit in the grounds of Cooma Hospital.

mcCr were the beneficiary of a substantial bequest in 2024 and with monies already raised through our events, the committee have decided that apart from supporting patients in the unit and local outpatients with financial assistance we will fulfil our vision. Our vision is to build a stand alone cancer unit within Cooma hospital grounds and operated by Southern NSW Local Health.

We have an architect concept plan for the unit (see above) and mcCr currently hold $3 million toward the project however we require a further $2 million to complete the build.
